Well, you would think finding a manufacturer for a clothing line couldn't possibly be that hard since there are a MILLION and 1 clothing lines out there.  But OH was I wrong....When I first starting looking, I thought I hit the jackpot with this one website because there was seriously about 50 manufacturers listed.  As I started weeding through them though, not everyone ended up doing childrenswear.  I made phone calls and sent emails to about 15 companies that I thought would do what I needed and all of them told me that I didn't meet their minumum requirements. 

I finally found one company in TN who I sent some sample work to, but really he ended up giving me the run around for 2 1/2 months and then sent it all back to me and told me" he didn't have time to do it." 

Just when I thought I was out of options, I found another list!!  This list included Fashion Group Enterprises in CA.  I emailed them, explaining that this was my dream, and I had exhausted  all of my options at this point. I continued to say that I just waisted almost 3 months of my time with someone else and if he wasn't interested, to please just let me know straight up.  Within 2 hours the owner called me!  

After explaining to them what I wanted to do with my company, they decided they wanted to help me get started.  I can not even explain how much Fashion Group Enterprises has taught me and done for me just in the few months we have been talking.  

Manufacturers and Suppliers don't like start up companies because there isn't much in it for them until they make it big.  But they need to remember, THEY STARTED SOMEWHERE TOO!  And if this business is your dream, you have to keep searching until you find someone who is willing to give you a chance.  So Thank You Fashion Group for taking a chance on me, and walking me through this journey!!  I hope I make it BIG for you =)


 

In October of 2010 I did my first Expo.  Once I saw that my items were selling, I started researching how to go from being a "hobbiest" to a business.  
    Keep in mind that I knew absolutely nothing about the business side of things...Basically everything I read about licensing and taxes, and all the other things you need to know, was foreign language to me.  
    We were in the midst of moving from Fort Benning, GA to Fort Knox, KY (which is nothing new since the Army sends us everywhere) so it took be about 5 months to look at stuff on my own before I realized I could go the the SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CENTER once we were settled.

    There are A LOT of things and paperwork that you need to have and filed in certain orders.  I was given a step-by-step guide with websites and contact information and it was actually really easy after I had that. 

I have never been the type of person to Blog...I'm just not really the writer of the family.  But I have learned so much while creating this buisness that I would love to share some of those experiences and tips with my followers.
